The Timberwolves are reportedly optimistic that Karl Anthony-Towns avoided suffering a major injury to his lower right leg, according to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, but there’s some early optimism that he may have avoided a substantial injury to his lower right leg, sources tell ESPN.

KAT fell to the ground and grabbed his right calf with 5:25 left in the third quarter of Minnesota’s blowout loss to the Washington Wizards Monday night. Minnesota called KAT’s injury a calf strain, and according to Woj, the former Rookie of the Year is set to undergo an MRI on Tuesday.

“Obviously, super concerned about that. Big blow for us,” said head coach Chris Finch per Fan Nation. “We’ll have an update tomorrow,”

Finch said he’s hopeful it’s a calf strain, not a torn Achilles. Minnesota will look to get back on track and pick up a win against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday.
